Barton Cowperthwaite was born and raised in Denver, Colorado USA. He began his training with Brian Young at the Off Broadway Academy of Dance. He began taking Hip-Hop classes, then moved on to take Tap and Jazz.
His formal ballet training started at age 13 when he was accepted into Denver School of the Arts. He trained as a dance major under the program directors Michael O’Banion and Alicia Karczewski. Mr. Cowperthwaite had the privilege of training under such guest artists as Larry Keigwin, Hannah Kahn, Scott Putman, and many more. In his second year at DSA he followed Brian Young from Off Broadway Academy of Dance to the Academy of Colorado Ballet. In his time there, Mr. Cowperthwaite was featured in both Pointe and Dance Spirit Magazines. Additionally he placed in the top three male dancers at the West Coast Dance Explosion national competition in Las Vegas, NV USA.
Upon his graduation from DSA he moved to the University of Arizona as a Dance major aided by both dance and academic scholarships. He graduated cum laude with a BFA in dance one year early in May 2013. In his time at UA he performed many works including the principal male roles in George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante and Rubies. He choreographed for student performances at the university and has represented the school across the USA and internationally.
He was the only American flown out to choreograph, teach, and perform at the 32nd Annual International Galla di Danza in Udine, Italy. He transitioned immediately upon his graduation into working with Rasta Thomas’ Bad Boys of Dance as Romeo in their international production of Romeo and Juliet.
Graduating from University of Arizona cum laude with a BFA in dance in just three years and then transitioning straight into Bad Boys of Dance.
