Ryan P. Casey

BIOGRAPHY

Ryan trained under Thelma Goldberg and Kelly Kaleta with the Legacy Dance Company of The Dance Inn in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he is now on faculty. He was an original member and dance captain of Aaron Tolson’s New England Tap Ensemble, later became a founding member of Michelle Dorrance’s Dorrance Dance, and has also performed with Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, with whom he has trained extensively.

Hailed by The Boston Globe for his “rocketing rhythms and stylish moves,” Ryan has taught and choreographed for many studios, colleges, youth companies, and camps throughout North America and been on faculty at festivals nationwide. He has choreographed and produced several original shows and presented work at countless venues, including the Inside/Out series at Jacob’s Pillow, Massachusetts Dance Festival, Symphony Space, and David Parker’s “Soaking WET” series. You may have seen him on an episode of the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance or read one of his articles for Dance Spirit, Dance Teacher, Dance Studio Life, or BroadwayWorld.com.

Currently teaching at Boston University – and several regional studios – and choreographing for the University of Connecticut Tap Team, Ryan is a proud alumnus of New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, The National YoungArts Foundation, and The School at Jacob’s Pillow.

BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE FOR OTHER DANCERS

Remember that your professionalism, reputation, and integrity are your most valuable assets. Be self-advocating and create your own opportunities. Always be the best dancer you can be. Keep dance alive in the community. Share the joy of dance with others.

UNUSUAL FACT/LOVE/HABIT/GOAL/ABILITY THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW

I have a huge sweet tooth and love ice cream, milkshakes, cupcakes, and other desserts! I’m also a voracious reader and aspiring scholar of Victorian literature. And, for the record, I am 6’8” – and no, I don’t play basketball!
