Steven Melendez was born in New York City in 1986 and began his ballet training in the LIFT scholarship program with Ballet School New York at the age of 7. Later, he studied at the School of American Ballet and attended summer intensive programs at the San Francisco Ballet Academy, The Houston Ballet Academy and The Kaatsbaan International School. He is also a graduate of the American Ballet Theater Studio Company Associate Program.
Steven is currently a principal dancer with New York Theatre Ballet and a partner artist with Ballet Next. He has performed as a principal dancer with The Vanemuine Theater in Tartu, Estonia, as a soloist with Ballet Concierto in Buenos Aires, Argentina and performs with Collage Dance Collective in Memphis, Tennessee.
Steven has performed in international galas and festivals in over 15 countries including Celebrating the Classical Male Dancer in Budapest, Hungary and The Men Dancers at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. He is a faculty member of Ballet School New York and holds an annual summer workshop in Nagoya, Japan.
