Yuji Uragami

BIOGRAPHY

Born February 22th, 1976 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Uragami Yuji is a Japanese tap dancer and choreographer. Suji Tap began his dance training at the age of 16 under the direction of his soul dance teacher, Obara Tomohiro. While being a member of renowned Hip hop/Future Jazzy dance group "STAX GROOVE" and house/freestyle dance crew "SYMBOL-ISM", he began to develop his passion for tap dance in Higuchi Dance Studio at the age of 24, learning from the tap dancer, HIDEBOH.

From 2001 till 2005, He had joined "THE STRiPES", a rhythm entertaining group led by HIDEBOH and performed in various tap dance shows at home and abroad. Since then, he shifted his focus solely on tap dance.

In order to delve into individual expression, Suji Tap became a soloist from 2006. He has extensively staged tap shows in live houses and theaters. Tap dance workshops were also conducted nationwide in Japan.

In September 2011, Suji Tap decided to start fresh again by using his real name, Uragami Yuji.

He keeps challenging himself and aspires to peruse the infinite possibility of tap dance. Most importantly, his mission is to popularize tap dance.

  •  2003: Opening act for "Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk" in Akasaka ACT Theater
  •  2005: Performing as an Asian representative team celebrating the 15th Anniversary of Chicago Human Rhythm Project
  •  2007: Guest performer in Taipei Tap Festival
  •  2009: Taiko Drummer Leonard Eto's percussion project "Blendrums" in Europe. Touring in Cologne and Dsseldorf in Germany; Zug in Suisse; Roma in Italy. Guest performer in Taipei Tap Festival
  •  2010: Leonard Eto's percussion project "Blendrums" at Spoletofestival in Italy and 8 shows in Spain Tour (respectively in La noche en blanco, Valladolid, Alcobendas, Salamanca, Valencia, Zaragoza, Barcelona Asia Festival)
  •  2011: Guest performer in Hong Kong Tap Festival
