Capezio 125th Anniversary Celebration
The Capezio 125th Anniversary Celebration was a hit. Family, friends and entertainers of all worlds came together to celebrate with Capezio, the company that has delivered high quality dance goods for 125 years. The show started with The Rockettes kicking high into the sky, working in perfect sync only to open up and reveal the amazing, red shoe wearing Tommy Tune. He later would receive the 61st Capezio Dance Award, presented by his friend, the famous dancer/choreographer Ann Reinking.
Tommy joined an amazing list of past recipients: Savion Glover, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Desmond Richardson and many more. Nigel Lythgoe was also awarded the Capezio 125th Anniversary Award and was given a donation for his Dizzy Feet Foundation.
The night was filled with amazing performances produced by Ann Marie DeAngelo. She brought together a beautiful mix of dance, athletics and arobatics from many fields of dance. Ballet, modern, ballroom and tap to name a few.
Misty Copeland and Jared Matthews of American Ballet Theatre, doing a little Balanchine ("Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux").
There was a hip hop performance, courtesy of Mr. Wiggles with amazing hip hop and breakin.
A huge show number from jazz choreographer Mandy Moore. iLuminate sparked in the dark with a performance called "Night Vision," created by Miral Kotb.
Noah Racey and Jeffrey Denman dazzled with an old-fashioned song-and-tap number called "Educate Your Feet."
There were also multiple ballroom dancers fluttering across the stage. Especially sizzling was a tango performed by Jaime Verazin and Mark Stuart, of Mark Stuart Dance Theatre.
Other memorable routines were those of The Lombard Twins from Argentina and a couple who twisted and turned on skis from Momix dance company.
Queen and Michael Jackson echoed through the theatre as the male group called the Bad Boys of Dance leaped and spun with fury.
And there was even a charming Bob Fosse number — three dancers in bowler hats, performing the choreographer's distinctive Manson Trio number from his musical "Pippin." As many in the audience knew, Reinking performed in "Pippin" early in her career.
Thank you all for all your passion a support for dance.
