Jared Grimes’ Latest News

Jared Grimes

By Deborah Searle of Dance Informa

You recently performed The Jared Grimes Feel, a 75-minute music and dance concert, at Drom in NYC. How was it received?

“It was awesome. I had so much fun. My band is crazy. I’ve been dreaming about doing the whole band thing, the whole front man thing as an artist, ever since I can remember.  I’ve wanted to blend all the worlds that I’m a part of, in regards to the jazz world, the commercial dance world, the tap world, the acting world and the musical theatre world. It came out exactly like I envisioned! I plan to do a lot more shows, build it up more buzz and record some original songs. We will be performing The Jared Grimes Feel again at The Slipper Room, located at 167 Orchard St. in NYC, on April 25th.”

You currently have a role on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Tell us about it.

“This season I have a reoccurring role on Boardwalk Empire as the character ‘Grover.’  It’s a dream come true. My whole plan was to be able to do everything under the sun from Broadway to acting, to concerts, to TV and film. The cycle keeps happening for me and I keep staying busy in all those areas. To be on set singing and dancing for a show as reputable as HBO’s Boardwalk Empire is nothing short of a dream come true. This is the first time I’m getting the opportunity to showcase not only my acting ability, when it comes to television, but my dancing as well. It’s been a good year!”

What other projects are you currently working on?

“We have a Broadway Underground coming up on March 18that BB Kings on 42nd Street in NYC. We’ve gotten so popular that we are now in the big room at BB Kings!

Also, in the fall, a show I’m doing called Cotton Club Parade is going to Broadway. I’m working on this with Wynton Marsalis, who I call my mentor right now.

My company will be performing at The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC from May 24th-27th. Shows are at Emmett Robinson Theatre at College of Charleston. For information and tickets visit Spoletousa.org/events/jared-grimes.”

Where can dancers take your classes?

“I’m teaching at New York City Dance Alliance on the weekends. During the week I teach at Broadway Dance Center. I have hip-hop on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6 p.m. and tap on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9 p.m.”
